LJ Subpages Widget allows you to display a menu listing subpages from a chosen page.
This plugin was developed as I needed a widget to display a list of subpages in my sidebar. All the other plugins that I found would only display subpages from the current page being displayed.
Features:
- Will display the subpages of a chosen Parent page (as of version 1.1 will show subpages of current page if required).
- Customizable Title with the choice of using the Parent Page Title or writing your own
- Compatible with subpages of subpages. You have the option of displaying Subpages of the Subpages being displayed (This is theme dependant, your theme must support submenus in the sidebar for this option to function as expected)
- If there are no subpages to display the widget outputs nothing rather then leaving a heading without any content
This widget was built using the new WordPress Widget API and as such it supports multi instance copies (This is shown in the Screenshots where I have two copies of the plugin loaded). For this reason it means that this widget is only supported by WordPress 2.8 and above. If you have a requirement for this plugin for a version of WordPress lower then 2.8 please contact me on the plugins homepage via a comment.

Hi Jon! Love your Custom Menu Links widget so much and glad I found this one that you recently added – it is exactly what I needed!! Thanks and keep up the great work!!
Got a good breadcrumb widget?? Yours on the top of this page is good too!

Hi,
I’m only able to list one parent page on the navigation menu and it appears on all of the other parent pages. For example, page1 has a,b,c subpages and page2 has d,e,f; when I pick page 1 in the widget only page 1 (a,b,c) appear on all of the pages.
Did I misunderstand your plugin? I trying to use it to show for each of the Parent Pages their subpages.
Thanks
Lain
@Lain
Hi Lain,
This plugin is designed to show a Static listing of child pages, ie the same children on everypage. There are other plugins that do what you need. “Subpages” just from reading its description is one of them.
I think I will add this as a feature in the next releasse, that way the plugin can cover all expectations. This one was originally developed because no other subpage plugin I could find could do what I wanted.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi Jon,
Is this widget the one your using for Software sub pages? Cause I’m looking for something like that. This widget (for me anyway) puts the subpages of the parent page on my sidebar instead of giving me a drop down menu when I hover over the link in my nav bar.
@Alex
LJ Subpages Widget isn’t used on this site. The Nav menus up the top are based on my theme and setting up parentage for each of the pages.
Cheers,
Jon
Alright thanks.
Great widget! One request however:
1. It would be nice if the same subpage list would show when one of the sub-pages is active. It is great when the Parent page is active but the list disappears when a subpage is active 🙁 Maybe an option box for this.
Thanks!
Hi, first I want to tell you that I really like your plugin.
I just made a small modification, in fact I added a new option to just list the subpages if I’m already on a subpage, but not on a Parent page (just for the automatic subpages)
It’s working great.
I think the contrary would be good too.
I want to send you the code, please contact me by email.
I have the same request, can we expect an update soon?
@Henrik
I am looking into the feature requests now. Been really busy. Cheers.
how to display the widget in the page template? is there any shorcodes to do so ?
